Donkey featured Worcestershire Living Magazine

Managed to pick up a copy of the Dec/Jan issue of Worcestershire Living yesterday. I'd had a couple of orders for the donkey brooch before Christmas but had not actually seen the feature in the magazine.... I think he looks rather splendid especially next to my favourite handbags (which I was lucky enough to receive for Christmas too!!!) a big thank you to the magazine for the promotion.

Well it has!! It just had to wait until we try to return to work didn't it - typical eh?

Anyway made it into the studio this morning but then decided I did not want to get stuck there as it was coming down pretty heavy so gingerly made my way back through Worcester - a 15/20min journey took 1 1/2 hrs!!!

Still eventually got home & have been working on some designs for a large scale metalwork commission......

Let's see if any more of the white stuff appears this evening??? If so I may have to do my Valentine designs in the kitchen!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year to you all!!
Sorry a day later than planned as a little 'tired & emotional' yesterday after New Year's Eve party!!!
Anyway here's hoping 2010 brings much fun, love & happiness....

Unfortunately these were not the fireworks seen in Worcester the other night! I went to an amazing firework festival at Eastnor Castle last August.....

Crafts not just for Christmas Exhibition

I'm thrilled at the catalogue for the forthcoming crafts exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery!
You may remember from an earlier post the gallery commissioned me to design & make a piece of jewellery to reflect the theme of the exhibition....a very sad looking cat & dog!
This brooch has been photographed and used for the invite & catalogue plus the actual piece is going to be the prize in a raffle. Entry into the exhibition & gallery is free.
It's lovely to see an image of my work used to promote what should be a fab exhibition. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to attend the opening this Friday as I'll be down in Suffolk but I'll be rushing down to the gallery on Foregate Street in Worcester next week to see the display.

Amazing Sky!

Rushed up to the top of the garden last night to try & capture the fantastic colours....Worcester Cathedral in the distance & lots of foliage in the way! I didn't have time to run to the top of the hill!

Crafts not just for Christmas

I've just completed a commission for Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum. This November & December they are holding a crafts exhibition at the gallery. I was approached to design a piece to illustrate the theme with a play on the words 'pets not just for Christmas', making my cat & dog look rather sad....it's amazing what a difference the head angle, eyes & mouth can make! I hope I have answered the brief!?
The piece was saw pierced from copper & brass & soldered together - the whiskers were a little tricky! I then oxidised the piece & textured the little dog to make him look even more scruffy.

1st day in Bunny Studio

Today I've finally got organised & started my long planned one day a week out of my Bransford studio working from a space in the garden at home in Worcester. We had replaced the roof & insulated the 'shed/summerhouse' last year for which the resident rabbit Duke is very grateful!

The idea is that I can get lots of work done with no phone, customers or computer! I want to work on some new ideas & sometimes you just need the space to do it...

I have been entertained by the wildlife though this morning with a baby blackbird & a cheeky squirrel.

Worcester High Street Stand

Thought you might like to see the stand display at Worcester this weekend. We set up again this morning - much brighter than yesterday thank goodness!

Tim is holding the fort while I'm at the studio with the farmers market going on at The Fold. It's a lovely sunny morning so hoping for lots of visitors.......
Our stand is next to Roy Dutton's wooden sculptures......
I really like the big head figure the texture on the metal surface is fab. If you see Roy ask him about the trouble he had making this piece!
We already own 2 figures with earrings...can feel another purchase coming on!!!

Workshop at King's School

I held a one day introduction to jewellery & metalwork on Sunday at the King's School in Worcester. They have a fantastic art department which was a great place to hold a workshop. We had 20 participants which was a little too many especially when everyone was hammering at the same time! I think the next one will have a reduced number taking part. However everyone seemed pleased & went away either wearing a piece of jewellery or clutching a wall hanging (which I hope are now being proudly displayed???).

I'm taking part in an exhibition at Kings School in Worcester early next month. I shall be showing alongside Hazel Green's photographs and friend Sue Brown's prints.
In conjunction with the exhibition I'm running a workshop on Sunday 8th with some of the pupils hopefully giving them an intoroduction to jewellery making.
