New Etching Artwork Designs

I've just completed the artwork for some new etching. These will be photo-etched in brass & copper then used for my greetings cards. I thought it was about time I introduced some new designs to the range although the old favourites do still seem to be popular. I'm really looking forward to getting the first batch of metal versions delivered in the next few weeks.....

Valentine Designs

These are the Valentine designs I was working on yesterday......
I'll probably add some stamped lettering (like on the animal alphabet designs) to the final greetings cards. It's a beautiful bright sunny day but my feet are a 'little chilled' at the studio!! A fab huge snowman has appeared at The Fold - I must remember to bring my camera tomorrow...I don't think he'll melt overnight as they are talking about -14 degrees again!

Crafts not just for Christmas Exhibition

I'm thrilled at the catalogue for the forthcoming crafts exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery!
You may remember from an earlier post the gallery commissioned me to design & make a piece of jewellery to reflect the theme of the exhibition....a very sad looking cat & dog!
This brooch has been photographed and used for the invite & catalogue plus the actual piece is going to be the prize in a raffle. Entry into the exhibition & gallery is free.
It's lovely to see an image of my work used to promote what should be a fab exhibition. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to attend the opening this Friday as I'll be down in Suffolk but I'll be rushing down to the gallery on Foregate Street in Worcester next week to see the display.

Thursday, 15 October 2009

It's all a bit frantic at the studio at the moment! I'm trying to make as many metalwork panels & pictures as possible for next week as I have 2 events booked for the weekend, plus a delivery for an exhibition.
On the list of things to do also are Christmas cards.....
These are some of the metalwork designs I'm doing this year. I'm mounting them as with my other cards on window mounts on smaller size cards. They will be approx 10cm x 10cm cards in red, green or cream. Priced at £3 each. I am producing some of the designs in etched copper in addition to the usual etched brass.
There should be a selection out in the studio by this weekend!!

Crafts not just for Christmas

I've just completed a commission for Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum. This November & December they are holding a crafts exhibition at the gallery. I was approached to design a piece to illustrate the theme with a play on the words 'pets not just for Christmas', making my cat & dog look rather sad....it's amazing what a difference the head angle, eyes & mouth can make! I hope I have answered the brief!?
The piece was saw pierced from copper & brass & soldered together - the whiskers were a little tricky! I then oxidised the piece & textured the little dog to make him look even more scruffy.

Roy Dutton - New Neighbour Studio B

Roy has joined the Fold! It's been about a month now that I've had a new neighbour at the studio. Unfortunately Sarah Roberts moved a couple of months ago but now lives very close so we still see each other regularly. She is still designing & printing and will be showing at the Malvern Autumn Show. http://www.sarah-roberts.co.uk/

These are some of Roy's latest pieces which I think are really great! I'd like to take one of the dogs home with me....
