Altered Book No6 Jan - Feb 09

Started to get interested in 'cat mummies'!

I've just completed the last book in the project - a very old book on The Alphabet. Unfortunately it had started to collapse slightly...

We're all getting together next month to exchange books & will get our original book back with all the other artists work inside. Can't wait to see what the others have done. I've really enjoyed working this way & have decided to try this method out in my next source book - which will of course be on an Indian theme!

Altered Book No.5

I've just been sent the last book for the artists book project I've been working on over the past few months. These images are from the 5th book completed during November & December
This was a bit of a strange one.... aliens aren't really my thing!

The rings of Saturn were a starting point

Lampshade head alien people!

After the last book is completed at the end of February all the artists will get together & we'll exchange our books and receive our original back with every ones pieces included.

Altered Book No 4

It was all a bit of a panic to get my sections done for the Altered Book project for Oct/Nov!

However as usual I enjoyed the process & revisited some techniques I've not used for a while such as mono printing.

I was not familiar with the story 'Babes in the Wood' but liked the idea of the robins....
I've included some of my metalwork pieces in photographic form in this book.

The next book is even more challenging!!! Watch this space.... I'm planning to start today as I know time will be short over the next couple of months.

Altered Book No.3 July & Aug 2008

Just coming to the end of my pages for Book No.3 - I've done less pages this time as I've been busy with shows the past couple of months. The pages I have worked on are quite involved in this book as I spent time with fellow altered book artist Sue Brown in her fabulous Cheltenham studio which I always find very inspiring.

Some of the elements used on these pages are taken from a Lisa Larson ceramic tile which I love.
I'm always on the look out for her pieces particularly the bird tiles and stripey cats!

Altered Book No.2 May/June 2008

I've just completed my section of the second altered book of the 12 month project I'm involved with. After struggling a little at the start - mainly due to a lack of time! I've finished several pages in a flourish the other evening. I'm now just about to start on book No.3 in which I have 2 months to experiment with new creations....

Altered Book Project

I've recently become involved in an altered book project with 5 other artists. I've chosen my book after much deliberating & trawling of secondhand shops in Worcester, Pershore & St Ives! I've finally settled on an old title about 'Learning to Love your Weeds' - I thought this was very appropriate as I certainly have enough weeds on my allotment plot!

I have decided to try lots of different techniques in my book rather than stick to one - so far I've been block printing, collage using photography, embossing & stencilling. I've found lots of my old art materials including some dried up inks which I think are probably beyond saving now. It's interesting to re-visit techniques I've used many years ago.

As you can see I'm continuing with the bird theme at the moment....
